Richard E. Roe, 87, recently of Rosewood Health Center at the Groves, in Independence, MO, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011. A visitation will be held 1:00-2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City, MO, followed by a 2:00 p.m. funeral service, at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, in Weston, MO. The family suggests contributions be given to the American Heart Association . Richard was born on November 7, 1923, in Versailles, MO, to Willis Elmore and Reba Odessa (Wilbanks) Roe. As a teenager, he moved to Cardiff by the Sea, CA, where he graduated from high school. After high school, Richard served in the U.S. Army during World War II. While in the service, Richard married Velma Fern Tinder on October 14, 1943. The couple settled in the Kansas City area, where Richard worked several jobs over the years, including: Foremost Dairy, Safeway Groceries, Prudential Insurance, Zarda Dairy, and Pioneer Junior College. He was preceded in death by: his parents; and three sisters, Gladys, Opal, and Marie. Richard is survived by: his wife Velma, of the home; his daughters Beverly Hammer, and her husband Forrest of St. Louis, MO, and Barbara Selders, and her husband Dennis of Independence, MO; his brother Clifford Lee Roe, and his wife Vanda of Escondido, CA; his sisters Naomi Youngblood of Sequim, WA, and Wilma Foulk of Murrieta, CA; four grandchildren, Jodi, Julie, Brandy, and Allison; and five great grandchildren, Emily, Andrew, Katie, Elisabeth, and Noah.
