Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister passed away at her home in South Ogden surrounded by family on April 27, 2011 due to complications from a heart attack suffered on April 17th.

Helen was born the 10th day of September 1926 to Wallace and Lucille Tams in Ogden. She graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education. She worked as a Flight Attendant, Physical Education Teacher, and devoted her last teaching years with homebound students in Weber School District. She found her eternal companion, Dr. Fred Burdett, when he chased her down in her sporty yellow convertible. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on April 10, 1953. Fred passed away on June 19, 1997. Helen often mentioned that she was looking forward to being with Fred again and now they are reunited.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many positions including Stake Young Women Presidency, Relief Society President, Nursery "Grandma" and Temple Ordinance Worker in the Ogden Temple. Helen served the community as a member of Junior League, Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and as President of the Utah Dental Association Auxiliary, 1989-1990.

She loved her family and unselfishly devoted much of her time, talents, and energy to them. Trips with her family to Bear Lake, Lake Powell, and Disneyland clad in look-a-like shirts were among her favorite activities. She also loved to take family and friends for rides in her convertible. She was her grandchildren's #1 fan and attended their countless athletic events, plays, dance performances and band concerts. Her favorite saying was "Don't be sad that it's over; just be glad that it happened." She always made us feel good about ourselves in everything we did and "glad that it happened."

In addition to Fred, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Vernon Tams. She is survived by four daughters, Pat (Mike) McMullin, Lori Barr, Ann (Lynn) Shinney, and Linda (Kelly) Miles; one sister, Shirley Thornock, two brothers, Louis and Kenneth (Myra) Tams, 16 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

The family is grateful for the kindness expressed by so many friends, caregivers, members of her LDS ward, and extended family.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 3rd at 11:00 AM at the Burch Creek 5th Ward, 4955 Adams, with Bishop Brett Gray conducting. A viewing will be held Monday, May 2nd, at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd from 6 to 8 PM and at the Church on Tuesday from 9:45-10: 45 AM. Interment at Washington Heights Memorial Park.
