Elsie Faye Patton was born at high noon in Fairfield, Iowa. She was the 4th of 12 children in a family of farmers and railroaders.
She held several positions. An editor for the newspaper office, one of the first lady mail carriers under the Civil Service, an employee for the 1st Census at $960 per year plus a bonus, and finally as a senior editor for the US Patent Office. She also sewed a lot. Everything from coats to wedding gowns. The Willard Hotel was the scene of her meeting both Mrs. Herbert Hoover and General John Pershing. She considers President Hoover to be the best President because he and his wife were "kind folks". Elsie loved fried steak and shrimp. She was born with a clubfoot but never let it get her down.Elsie was considered the family historian for the Rains family. She lost her husband Albert early in life when Yetive was just a baby but she never remarried. She had 1 daughter Yetive who she raised by herself.
Elsie lived to be the grand age of 102 years old!
