LEAMINGTON PIONEER CALLED BY DEATH
On Wednesday, June 11th, Christian Overson passed away at his home after a very brief illness. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Ward Chapel. Ex-Bishop Anderson of Oak City, a life-long friend of the deceased, spoke of his life of service. Bishop Anderson of Oak City, Joseph T. Finlinson, Wm. J. Finlinson and Rodney B. Ashby all spoke of his sterling qualities. Musical numbers were rendered by the Ward Choir and a quartet and duet were also rendered by members of the Choir. Interment took place in the Oak City Cemetery, where the family burial lot is located.
In the passing of Christian Overson, Millard County has lost one of it's greatest pioneers. He came from Denmark in the year 1862 and located in Millard County where he has been a very useful man. He was the first surveyor of the Leamington irrigation canal and he was the first promoter of the Sevier Land and Water Canal. He served as counselor of Bishop Ashby for a good many years. He was always a liberal giver to every cause. He died at the age of 84 years and was the father of eight children who are: Joseph Overson, Emma Neilson and Lyman Overson of Leamington, James Overson of Murray, Hyrum Overson of Lucian, Ann Strange of Salt Lake, Sadie Tilford of Valijo, California. Fifty-five grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, a posterity of one hundred in all. Mr. Ova Peterson of Fillmore, a brother of brother Overson was present at the funeral.
