Crossville Chronicle June 25, 1931

J B Reed, 73, who was stricken with paralysis and pnuemonia Friday, June
12th, died at 10 p.m. Monday night at his home 1 mile south of Crossville.
The remains were taken to Gilbreath cemetery in Pickett county, 2 miles from
Forbus, Fentress county, Tuesday afternoon and interred at 3 p.m. with
Masonic honors, Crossville and Byrdstown Lodges participating. C C Frogge,
an old and intimate friend of the deceased, made a few very feeling and
appropriate remarks extolling the virtues and good citizenship of the
deceased.
Members of the Crossville Lodge went to the home and accompanied the
deceased to the scene of burial.
The deceased was born in Fentress county November 27, 1858 and would have
been 73. He lived all his life in Fentress county until he came to this
county 8 years ago.
He was elected Sheriff in Fentress county at the age of 22 and served in
that capacity for 3 terms. He was then elected Tax assessor, holding that
office for 4 years. He was then elected Trustee and served 2 terms.
Since coming to this county, he's been occupied at farming. He leaves a
wife and 2 children, Walter Reed and Mrs. W T Parris, Fentress county.
