AUGUSTA APPLEBY
Memorial services for Augusta Appleby, 79, will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning Jan 14 at the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, The Rev. Al Polito will officiate at the services.
Augusta Appleby of Barry, Ill., and formerly of Monticello, died Saturday, Jan 9 at the Barry Community Care Center, Barry, Ill., following an extended illness.
Augusta Gerdes was born Jan 11, 1913 in Jones County, the daughter of John and Katherine Anderson Gerdes. She received her education in the Anamosa Community Schools where she graduated.
Augusta Gerdes and Claude Appleby were married April 20, 1933 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Anamosa. The couple made their home in Monticello where he worked for the Postal Service. He preceded her in death on July 28, 1988. Augusta moved to the Barry Care Center in June 1990.
Surviving are two sons Don of Monticello and Bruce of Makanda, Ill.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and a sister, Louise Helgens of Monticello.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
Goettsch Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
