Ruth was born on December 10, 1930 in Coryell City to Walter Lee Bates and Edith Bankhead Bates. She was one of eight daughters and always remained close to her sisters. She married O.L. "Doc" Brinkley on June 10, 1949. Together they made a home in Oglesby and raised three children. Ruth was a dedicated homemaker and devoted her life to caring for her family and her church. She leaves behind an amazing legacy of faith and love, along with wonderful memories in the hearts of her children and grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, of 45 years, O.L. "Doc" Brinkley; her parents; and six sisters. Survivors include son, Carl Brinkley of Oglesby; daughters, Betty Erlanson and husband, Robert, of McGregor, Janice Brinkley of McGregor; nine grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and one sister.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Oglesby or Oglesby Volunteer Fire Department.
