ASH - Mr. Edward Rumbley (Rum) Nelson age 79, of Rt. 1, Ash, died Wednesday afternoon in Brunswick County Hospital. Mr. Nelson was born in Brunswick County, N.C. the son of the late Edward Berty and Lucy Ann Gore Nelson. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Old Shallotte Baptist Church and had served as a deacon for several years. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Old Shallotte Baptist Church by Rev. Ivren B. Hughes. Interment will follow in the Lake Nelson Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Mrs Agnes B. Nelson; one son, Lake W. Nelson of Ash; two daughters, Mrs. Mina Ree Sloan of Wilmington and Mrs. Thelma Ray Smith of Ash; one sister, Mrs. Zula Mae Parrish of Thomasboro, N.C.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the residence and the body will lie in state at the residence until one hour prior to the service on Friday. A McKenzie Mortuary Server, Whiteville.
