George Emerson Wiley, 87, of Paducah died at 8:33 a.m. April 19 at his home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 6, at First Presbyterian Church of Paducah with the Rev. Lynn Shurley officiating and burial in Mount Kenton Cemetery.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.

George Emerson Wiley, 87, died Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at home, after a brief illness.

He was born on Christmas Eve 1923 in Bristol, Virginia to Susan Brown Wiley and Dr. William Scarff Wiley. Reared in Bristol, Virginia he graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (now Virginia Tech) in 1950 with a degree in Forestry and Wildlife Conservation. WWII interrupted his college studies when he served in the U.S. Navy at Naval Air Stations in Beaufort, SC and Jacksonville, FL. After college, Mr. Wiley was employed by The U.S. Forest Service in Estes Park, Colorado and by General Electric. In 1954 he obtained his Real Estate License and settled in Paducah, KY. He became a real estate broker in 1957 and subsequently opened George E. Wiley Real Estate at 1643 Broadway. After a three week "retirement" in 2002 he joined the Paducah Re-Max group where he remained an active broker and appraiser until his death.

Mr. Wiley was a member of the Kentucky Real Estate Commission where he was honored with The Half Century Award in 2004. He was a director for The Kentucky Real Estate Association in 1962. He was a member of The Paducah Board of Realtors for 54 years, serving as President in 1962.

A member of The First Presbyterian Church, Mr. Wiley served as an Elder and volunteer administrator of the FPC Memorial Fund. He was on the board of Mount Kenton Cemetery and was a member of The Salvation Army Advisory Board of Paducah. Mr. Wiley was a past director and Vice President of the Paducah Chamber of Commerce and a Scout Master for The Four Rivers Council of The Boy Scouts of America. For 28 years Mr. Wiley served on the board of The Forest Hills Public Project Corporation. George E. Wiley Park was dedicated in January of 1997 in honor of his devoted service to the neighborhood.

Mr. Wiley married the former Doris "MeMe" Catlin in 1951. He told us it was MeMe's hand he was holding as he left us for his new life with our heavenly Father. Preceded in death by his wife, mother and father he is survived by his children; Caroline Wiley Wilson and husband Dave, Jane Wiley Howe and husband Harris Milton, George Emerson Wiley, Jr. and wife Kate and Zebulon Dickey Wiley. Grandchildren; David Wiley Wilson, Knox Briscoe Howe, II, Edward Alexander Howe, Rachel Streeter Rayburn, Zachary Lewis Streeter and great-grand daughter Avery Rayburn; sister, "Betty" Wiley Morton and husband Bill and family; sister-in-law "Betty" Catlin and husband, H.B. "Hub" Spencer Jr. and family.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Richard Smith for the excellent and compassionate care he gave our mother and father over the years. They were honored to have you as their physician and friend. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Milner and Orr, 120 Memorial Drive. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 6, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Lynn Shurley officiating. Internment will follow at Mount Kenton Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Knox B. Howe, II, E. Alexander Howe, D. Wiley Wilson, Zachary Streeter, Peyton Morton, Wade Morton, Hubbard Spencer, III and John Spencer.
