Thomas was the son of Henry Fee and Ellen "Nelly" Long Fee and the husband of Jane. Thomas and Jane were married about 1830 in Henry County, VA. Their first child (Sarah Ann Fee) was born April 22, 1831 in Crawford County, IN. After Sarah, six more children (George William, John, Martha Jane, Maddison, Nancy Ann, and Thomas Joel.) were born in Indiana before the family moved to Iowa, probably in late 1847 or early 1848. Four more children were born in Iowa (Charles A., Rachel V., Almena, and Mary C.)
