Donald Miles Barton was born in Storm Lake, Iowa on May 15, 1900, the son of Johnathan Miles Barton and Mary Agnes Gaddis. Donald enlisted in the U. S. Army on April 19, 1917 having lied about his age, he claimed to be 18. He was stationed along the Mexican border in Arizona for a year, Travis, Texas for six months and was discharged as a corporal in February of 1919. He married Ruth Emeline Jones on January 1, 1938 in Nashua, Iowa. Ruth was born on April 1, 1910 in Highmore, South Dakota, the daughter of Oren Wilbur Jones Sr. and Treaty Perpetua Ritcha. Donald was an active member of his community both in the church and the cub scouts. Donald died on June 14, 1950 in Bennett, Nebraska, at 50 years of age. He was co-owner of Tire Mileage, Inc. and was returning home from a business trip when he suffered a fatal heart attack near Bennett. Donald is buried in the Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln, Lancaster, Nebraska. Ruth died on April 14, 1972 in Lincoln, Nebraska, at 62 years of age.
