Mrs. A. S. Baker, Former Local Lady, Dies at Lincoln -
Mary E. Baker of Lincoln, former resident of Oakdale community, across the river north of Palmer, died in Lincoln Tuesday morning January 17, 1961 and was buried in Wyuka cemetery in Lincoln Friday. She was the step-mother of Vernon Baker of Central City.
Born in Missouri, Mrs. Baker was the daughter of Joel and Sylvia (Sharp) Branch. Soon after her birth the family moved to Kay County, Oklahoma.
In 1907 she was married to Judson L. Kibbe, who died in 1909, leaving her with two small children, a son, Floyd, who died in 1954 at Tacoma, Wash., and a daughter, Alice.
On February 24, 1913 she was married to A. S. Baker. Mr. and Mrs. Baker and their families lived in Oakdale community for 14 years moving from there to the Silver Creek, Clarks and Chapman communities. In the fall of 1938 they moved to Central City where Mr. Baker died on March 4, 1945.
Mrs. Baker and her daughter, Geneva continued to make their home in Central City until June 1947 when they moved to Lincoln.
Mrs. Baker is survived by two daughters, Alice Mitchell and Geneva Baker of Lincoln; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and nine step-children; two sisters, Mrs. Frana Burke of Topeka, Kansas, and Della of California.
