A brief summary of Grandpa Jacob's
life is in the memorial of my father,
Andrew Hollowell Aleshire which can
be read there. (Find A Grave #22376595)

In Grandpa's Bible the following poem
was found. The writing matches his
signature on his pension applications.
I imagined him sitting on a log or
rock alongside the rippling waters of
Sugar Creek which flowed from the
mountainside near his homestead.
Grandpa Aleshire loved living in the
Ouachita Mountains, Polk County, AR.

He was probably contemplating moving
from Sugar Creek to Mineola, Howard
County, which would give both him and
Hannah access to doctors. They both
had health problems.

"A Resolve - J.S. Aleshire
"In Meditation -This October 14, 1921
age 78 years"

What shall I render bountious Lord
For all the Grace we see
The goodness feeble man can yeald
Rendered not to Thee.

To sines of hope, to beds of pain
We cheerfully repair
And with the gifts thy hands bestow
Releave the suffers there.

The widow's heart shall sing for joy
The orphan shall be glad
And hungering souls are gladly fain
To Christ the living bread.

Let death desolve my body now
And bear my spirit home
Why do my days move on so slow
Now my salvation come. (underlined)

I know I am near the holy land
Of friends and kindred dear
For I've brushed the bier on Jordan
I know the crossing must be near.

Hark I hear a voice so sweet, can it
Be the riffle of the brook at my feet
Or a little bird in the tree
No, it is the voice of a brother
Far across the sea.

Bright source of everlasting love
To Thee our souls we raise."
