US Congressman. Born in Emporia, Kansas, he attending the Kansas State Teachers' College and taught school in Lyon County, (1909-11). He served as clerk of the Lyon County Court (1912-18), studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1915 and commenced to practice in Emporia, , Kansas. He was a member of Kansas State House of Representatives (1927-33), a member of Kansas State Senate, (1933-35) and a member of the Kansas Judicial Council, (1933-37). In 1937, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-fifth Congress and to the next eleven succeeding Congresses, serving until 1961. Not a candidate for renomination, he resumed the practice of law in Emporia, Kansas, until his death at age 83.
