Donald S. Biggs

Donald S. Biggs, 85, of North Platte, died June 12, 2005, at the Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln. Don was born Feb. 2, 1920, at Clear Lake, S.D., to Royce and Grace West Biggs.
They moved to Marne, Iowa, where he grew up and started working in construction greasing equipment at nights and running a bulldozer during the day. He graduated from Marne High School. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1941, serving in the South Pacific until 1945. He was very proud of being a Marine. In 1961, he married Earlyne Detlefsen at the Presbyterian Church in Las Vegas. They lived in California, where Don was in construction, building many homes, hospital, banks and the world headquarters for Nexxus in Santa Barbara, Calif. They moved back to Nebraska in 2000, and he built one apartment unit for Sandridge.
Don loved to play golf, play cards and all sports. Don will be remembered by many friends for always having a smile and enjoying life. Survivors include his wife Earlyne; his daughter, Shelley (Beau) Kimbrell of Black Forest, Colo.; his son, Craig (Alana) Biggs of Texas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Beulah Miller of Sun City West, Ariz.; a brother, Ray Biggs of Stover, Mo.; a sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Bobbie Smith of Arnold; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Pete, Bob, Bill and Dick Biggs. Memorials are suggested to the Don Biggs Memorial Fund. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Charles Spence officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens with military honors graveside. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Carpenter Memorial Chapel of North Platte.
