Lester Geddling, 84, of Moline, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997, in Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Burial is in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, where Moline American Legion Post 246 will present military honors.

Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Moline.

Mr. Geddling was born Sept. 2, 1913, in Flagler, Iowa, the son of Loren and Ruth Craig Geddling. He married Helen Adams Oct. 29, 1941, in Knoxville, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

He was employed in the Experimental Department at John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline, for 23 years, retiring in 1978. He also owned Geddling Excavating Co. in Moline for several years.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Moline, John Deere Retirees, Moline Elks Lodge, and Moline American Legion Post 246. He coached Little League baseball for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; and by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Loretta Geddling, and two granddaughters, Sarah and Ashley Geddling, all of Buffalo Grove, Ill. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Hannah Kampley and Alice Krause, and a brother, Francis Geddling.
