US Congressman. He graduated from Dartmouth College, in 1824, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1828 and commenced to practice law in Concord, New Hampshire. He was a member of the New Hampshire State House of Representatives, (1833-37) and Adjutant General of the New Hampshire State Militia, (1839-47). In 1847, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirtieth, Thirty-first and Thirty-second Congresses, serving until 1853. Not a candidate for renomination, he was appointed collector of the Port of Boston by President Pierce and served (1853-57). He died at age 62 in St. Paul, Minnesota.
