Mr. John Hobby Houston, Sr. 76, of Poulan died Sunday December 5, 2010 at his residence.
The graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday December 7, 2010 at the Poulan Cemetery with Mr. Johnny Sumner officiating.
Mr. Houston was born in Turner County on August 12, 1934 to the late Webb and Gertrude Hobby Houston. He was reared in Worth County living with Mr. and Mrs. Russell Houston and his grandparents. Mr. Houston was employed with the U. S. Postal service as a Postmaster in Poulan. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War, and a retired volunteer fireman for the City of Poulan. Mr. Houston was a Charter member of the Poulan Lions club, a member of the Worth Lodge # 194 F. & A. M. and a Deacon and member of the Poulan Baptist Church, and the Methodist Mens Club. He also loved to play Golf.
Survivors include his wife Joyce H. Houston of Poulan; son, John H. Houston, Jr. (Vanessa) of Poulan; daughter, Julie H. Rogers (Doyle) of Poulan; sister, Jane Young (Walter) of Shingler; grandchildren, Buck Rogers, Cody Rogers, Beki R. Gibbs, Meri Beth Houston, Hannah Andrews & Tripp Andrews, great grandchild, Colten Rogers, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Houston was preceded in death by a granddaughter Anna Lea Houston on May 23, 1997.
