William McCracken was with William Peebles (Elizabeth's first husband) in the Battle of Flatbush. McCracken returned to Shippensburg,PA. to inform Elizabeth Finley Peebles of the death of her husband. Lt. McCracken was quite taken with the widow Peebles and married her on 8/22/1777. McCracken died 1/16/1803, leaving his widow with three children: Martha,Jane and Samuel Finley McCracken. In addition, she had three children by her first husband: John, Betsy and Robert Peebles. Her third husband was Capt. William Rippey (1741-1819).
