U.S. Congressman. While engaging as a teacher, he studied civil engineering and was the engineer superintendent of highways for Adams County, Illinois, (1915-36). In 1937, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fifth Congress, serving until 1939. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he returned to engineering projects until his death at age 57.
