This is the memorial for the Rachel Andrews that married Clement Weaver in 1678 in Newport, RI. There are so many conflicting stories about Rachel on Ancestry & the Internet. Many say this Rachel was married to a man named Richard Andrew/Andrews and they had a daughter named Judith Andrews. Rachel got a divorce from Mr. Andrews and in a very short time married Clement. I welcome any information, suggestion, or even a good guess. I have placed her in the same cemetery as Clement Weaver for now, I think it is the most logical place she would be. I can always remove her if I find out she is buried elsewhere.

They could not have married before the divorce was granted. Some think they married in the 5th. month, in the Old Style Calender that would have been July, after the divorce was granted.

Clement was a son of the Weaver family who moved from Glastonbury, England, to Newport, Rhode Island. Clement Weaver was one of fifty veterans of the King Philip's War of 1675–1677 given large parcels of land in what was then a barren outpost now known as East Greenwich." This made Clement one of the town's original grantees. Clement Weaver and his young wife Rachel Andrews moved in the winter of 1679 to his 100 acres (0.40 km2) of land "by the sea," where he built the house only two years after the official founding of the town of East Greenwich. His home remains a rare and unique architectural showplace.
CHILDREN:
Many Ancestry trees and Rachel & Clement's find a grave memorial have children born to them before they are married. I will add a list of their children after I do more research.

I am not sure if this is new info or if you already know this, but apparently Rachel was Clement's second wife. He married his first wife in abt 1668. They had at least one child, a son William, that I know of. There might be more. Nothing seems to be known about her. Clement and Rachel married in 1677. After Clement died, Rachel married a William Bennett in abt 1693. I have noticed that Rachel's daughter Judith (Judia/Judea) was born in 1674, three years before Rachel married Clement. The book "New England Marriages Prior to 1700" by Clarence Torrey on Ancestry indicate that her marriage to Clement was her first. Given that, I think it's possible that Judith was illegitimate and maybe Clement adopted her upon marrying Rachel. Either that or Judith's year of birth is wrong. That's what I think anyway.
