Death of Prominent Business Man of Seattle Wash.

Yesterday afternoon a telegram to Herman I. Johnson of this city conveyed the sad news of the death of Edward O. Graves, his lifelong friend and a leading resident of Seattle, Wash. For sometime he had been in poor health. Mr. Graves was born in Gravesville, Herkimer County, about 65 years ago. He was a son of Solomon Graves, represented Herkimer County for several years in the State Legislature and his uncle, Esra Graves, was educated at Fairfield Seminary and Hobart College. Mr Graves was identified with the Treasury Office at Washington for over 25 years. He received the appointment in that department when F. E. Spinner of Herkimer County was made Secretary of the Treasury at Washington. He organized the redemption bureau and later became chief of the Bureau of Printing and Engraving. He was sent by the Government on various missions in Europe and was held in high trust and esteem by all his _________. During his service at Washington he always maintained a voting residence at Gravesville and regularly at election made visits there. Mr. Graves, after leaving the Treasury, organized the Washington National Bank at Seattle Wash., of which he became president. He was also interested in a private bank at Billingham. At one time he was president of the Seattle Chamber of Commerce and was one of the most active and successful men of the city. Mr. Graves was greatly admired by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Miss Jessie Graves, Miss Han____d of Seattle; a son, Bertram of Olympia, Wash., and two brothers, Crosby J. Graves of Wales, Pa., and Charles J. Graves of Union Springs, NY. The remains will be taken to Gravesville for interment.

The remains of Edward O. Graves, who died in Seattle, arrived in this city at 10 o'clock this morning. THey were taken in charge by Undertaker Frank G. Lankton and conveyed to Gravesville. Committal services were held there this afternoon. The Rev. J. Howard Robbs of this city officiated.
