Russian diplomat. He graduated from the Pages' Corps. Participated in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-78. In 1878 he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served as the Russian Ambassador to Brazil, China, Bavaria, as well as the Romanian ambassador to Constantinople (1911 - 1914) and Rome (from 1915). After the 1917 revolution he emigrated and settled in Paris. Being one the oldest of Russian diplomats in exile he headed the council of the ambassadors and the representative of General Wrangel in the Allies' Committee.
