U.S. Congressman. Born in Canton, Ohio, he moved to nearby Mansfield and became the treasurer and superintendent of the Aultman and Taylor Company, a water boiler manufacturer, in 1869, when he was 23 years old. He resigned in 1891 to accept election to Congress. Elected as a Democrat to represent Ohio's 15th District in the United States House of Representatives, he served from 1891 to 1895. He represented Ohio's 14th Congressional District during his second term and declined to become a candidate in 1894. He returned to Mansfield and engaged in banking until his death from suicide in 1896 when he was 49 years old. He was also a Freemason.
