Joseph W. Gilliam, age 80, of Oak Ridge passed away Thursday April 21, 2011 at the Methodist Medical Center.

Joseph was born September 3, 1930 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Arthur J. Gilliam, Sr. and Della Mae Garner Gilliam.

Joseph moved to Oak Ridge in 1947 and was employed at Y-12 as a Dispatcher until his retirement.

A member of Central Baptist Church, Joseph enjoyed spending time fishing, camping, repairing and selling bicycles, and volunteering at the Holiday Bureau.

Preceded in death by his brother, John D. Gilliam and son-in-law Gary Ogle,

Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Helen Gilliam of oak Ridge, three sons Barney J. Gilliam and his wife Huei-Jen of Abilene, Texas, James C. Gilliam and his wife Beverly of Oak Ridge, and Joseph L. Gilliam of Oak Ridge, two daughters Della (Deckie) Irene Conley and her husband Thomas of Oak Ridge, and C. Sue Gilliam Ogle of Oak Ridge, two brothers Arthur J. Gilliam, Jr. and his wife Pearl of Spring City, Tennessee, and Louis E. Gilliam and his wife Polly of Spring City, Tennessee, five sisters Charlotte Thurman and her husband Bill of Spring City, Tennessee, Betty Brady and her husband Lawrence of Grandview, Tennessee, Judy Oldham of Spring City, Tennessee, Jenny Garrison and her husband James of Grandview, Tennessee, and Emaline Nunley of Chattanooga. Tennessee, eleven grandchildren Rachel Conley, Kelly Herbert, Janice Dennis, Jennifer Gilliam, John Gilliam, Lisa Gilliam, Theo Ogle, Christina Ogle, Stacey McLemore, Tammy Duncan, and Shana Walker, three great grandchildren Kasey Herbert, Courtney Herbert, and Jackson Dennis, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:00 to 7:30pm at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow with Rev. Glenn Ellis officiating in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home.
