CYNTHIANA DEMOCRAT, January 10, 1957 -- Funeral services for John Ranza Shields, 73, farmer of the Cynthiana-Claysville Pike, who died at 7:10 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 1957, after an illness of two months, were conducted Monday afternoon at Beaver Baptist Church by Rev. P.E. Claybrook and Rev. J.R. Judge. Burial was in Beaver Baptist Cemetery.

He was born in Harrison County, May 6, 1883, a son of the late Thornton Baker and Eva Geoghegan Shields. He was a member of Beaver Baptist Church. His wife, Mrs. Della Florence Shields, whom he married October 3, 1903, died March 23, 1952.

Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. William Clough, Route 2; three sisters, Mrs. Eliza Fryman and Mrs. J. M. Florence, Route 3, and Mrs. Robert Batson, Latonia; two brothers, Harry Shields, Clark County, and Burgess Shields, California; and one granddaughter, Mrs. Burton Kimbrough, Route 5.

Pallbearers were Lawrence Fryman, Everette Fryman, Ray Boyd Whitaker, Joe Shields, Yancy Muntz, Theodore Muntz, Howard M. Florence and Harold Batson.
