Thomas "Tom" Bennett, 74, of Pana died Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at 2:50 a.m. in his residence. He was born February 19, 1931 in Findlay, IL, the son of Patrick H. & Carrie E. Meachum Bennett. He was a graduate of Findlay High School. After graduation, he went into the U. S. Air Force and served during the Korean War. After working for Oliver Tractor in Shelbyville, he worked at Mallory in Pana until he retired. He then opened his own business The Office Tavern in Pana. He loved fishing and golf.
Tom was a member of the VFW in Shelbyville; Shelbyville American Legion; and of the Army of Mississippi Civil War Re-enactment where he was a Lieutenant Colonel. He was also a past member of Shelbyville Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Shelbyville Moose Club, Pana Eagles and Pana Sportsman's Club.
Tom married Barbara Bryson They were later divorced. She survives in Shelbyville.
He then married Sharon Beeson.
He is survived by his wife: Sharon Bennett, Pana; children: Larry Bennett & wife Sue, Ely, MN and Patti Ingram & husband Tom, Windsor, IL; step daughter: Cathy Cooper, Pana, IL; 9 grandchildren: Jacob, Joshua, Thomas, Meghan, Derek, Stephen, James, Rachael, Ryan; and 3 great grandchildren: Jasmine, Kyra, Dylan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Jerry Thomas Bennett July 19, 2005.
Funeral Information
A memorial service will be held Friday, August 12, 2005 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until service time.
Graveside inurnment will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in Ash Grove Cemetery, Windsor.
