Committal service for Gladys Heflen, Cincinnati, will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Rest Haven Cemetery by the Rev. David Bremer.

Mrs. Heflen, a native of Edinburgh, was the widow of Fred Heflen.

She is survived by a daughter, Ruth Patterson of Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by another daughter, Margaret Goldbach.

GLADYS HEFLEN

Gladys Duckworth Heflen, 87, widow of Fred Heflen, of Cincinnati, Ohio and a native of Edinburgh, died last Wednesday in the Presbyterian Home in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Following services at the Elden A. Good Funeral Home in Cincinnati, Friday morning burial was made at Rest Haven Cemetery with the Service of Committal given by the Rev. David Bremer of the Edinburgh Presbyterian Church of which Mrs. Heflen was a member early in her life.

Mrs. Duckworth was born in Edinburgh June 30, 1891, the daughter of Belle Duckworth VanDorn and Sam Duckworth. She was reared by her grandmother, Mrs. Catherine Marsh.

On June 3, 1914, she was married to Fred Heflen of Edinburgh who died Jan. 29, 1945. The couple had lived in the former Camp Atterbury area in Bartholomew County where Mrs. Heflen organized the Pleasant Valley Club, which still has annual reunions, before moving to Cincinnati.

Mrs. Heflen was active in the Cincinnati Presbyterian Church and its woman's organizations.

Surviving are a daughter, Ruth Patterson of Houston, Texas, and nine grandchildren. Preceding in death was a daughter Margaret Goldbach, and a half-sister, Grace VanDorn Auxier.
