US Congressman. He served as a member of the Democratic Party from Ohio's 4th district, March 1897 until March 1899. Born near Sidney, Ohio on September 14, 1851, he received his education from the public schools of Shelby County, Ohio. He attended Ohio Wesleyan University at Delaware, Ohio where he studied law. In 1876 he was admitted to the bar and began practicing law in Sidney, Ohio and served as Shelby County's prosecuting attorney for eight years, from 1878 until 1885. In 1896 he was elected to the 55th Congress, serving only one term, and was not a candidate for reelection in 1898. He died in Sidney, Ohio on April 21, 1899 at the age of 47.
