Regina LaVonne Turner, 81, Fargo, ND, formerly of Arthur, ND, died on Friday, April 22, 2011 at Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo, ND.

Regina LaVonne Steffes Turner was born August 15, 1929, the Feast Day of Mary's Assumption into Heaven and died on Good Friday. She was born in Fulda, MN to Frank and Gertrude (Sauer) Steffes. On October 25, 1949, she married Charles Wayne Turner of Arthur. LaVonne and Wayne farmed and established a FAA certified airport in Cass County, where they operated Turner Spraying Service, a pioneering ag crop dusting business from 1955 until 1985. LaVonne loved music and was the choir director of St. Williams Catholic Church in Argusville for many years and traveled to Europe in 1975 with the Fargo Sweet Adeline's, who performed concerts in London, Paris and other European cities. In 1982, she helped establish a long standing Fargo Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) social function called the "Barn Dance" first held at the infamous Herb Johnson Barn in Arthur and continues annually today in Fargo. Among her dedicated friends from AA is her loving friend of 25 years, Claude "Chic" Cossette of Fargo. LaVonne suffered from a serious car accident in 1989 and from a major stroke in 2009. She always kept a cheerful disposition, deep religious faith and helped many people as a counselor in AA.

She is survived by her three children, David A. (Catherine) Turner, St Paul, MN, Shawn Hoffelt, Mott, ND and Jeff (Sheila) Turner, Gardner, ND and foster daughter, Esther (Bob) Frost, Mesa, AZ ; grandchildren, Tonya (Adam) VanSlyke, Charles Turner, Theresa (Brandon) McCabe, Joseph and David J. Turner, Andrew Hoffelt, Tasha and Tennille Turner; great-grandchildren, Natasha, Isaac and Michael VanSlyke; sisters, Alvina Lucht, Geraldine (Roy) Hartford, Charlotte (Ray) Wisdorf and Patricia Steffes. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wayne Turner, brother, Francis Steffes and granddaughter, Jenna Hoffelt. Great thanks to the nursing staff of Villa Maria and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their loving care of LaVonne.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 with a wake service at 7 in Saint Mary's Cathedral of Fargo.

Funeral will be on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 10 a.m. in Saint Mary's Cathedral.

Burial will be at Holy Cross North Cemetery in Fargo.
