Thornton was the son of Samuel & Cynthia A. Hedge Light. He married Henrietta Boone Dunaway Hubbart, 23 Dec 1871, Effingham County, Illinois. They had five children.

Thornton Light was born in Shelby County, Ill March 14, 1848 and departed this life at his home in Beecher City on Oct. 10, 1924, aged 75 yrs. 7 mo. and 10 days.
On December 23, 1871 he was united marriage to Henrietta Hubbartt, who preceded him death April 9, 1923. To this union were born 5 children: Granville Light of Morrisonville; Iona Troutman, who passed away in 1922; Bert Light of Beecher City; Elizabeth Sarver of Herrick and Hettie Ellison of Decatur. Several years ago he united with the Christian Church at Holliday and later transferred his membership to Beecher City.
He leaves to mourn his departure 5 children, several grandchildren and a host of friends.
He was known and respected by the entire community having spent the greater part of his life in and near Beecher City.
Funeral services were conducted at the Christian Church in Beecher City at 2:00 P.M. Oct. 11 by Rev. A. E. Kretzer. Interment was made in the Beecher City Cemetery.
