He served in the Army Air Force during World War II as an airplane mechanic. He worked as a foreman at Libbey-Owens-Ford Plant #8 for 32 years before retiring in 1979. Mr. Adkins also worked for Machintosh-Nitchske Estates for more than 30 years.
He was a founding charter member at the Lutheran Church of the Master, where he served as financial secretary, trustee and elder. He was a member of the Christ Dunberger Post #537, Oregon, and worked for Perrysburg Christians United. He was an avid gardener.
Mr. Adkins is survived by his wife of 60 years, Grace; children, Amy (Tim) Kramer and Russell Adkins; grandchildren, Russell, Nicole, Alysha and Gwen; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Marion Cowell, and brother, Robert Adkins. He was preceded in death by Howard Adkins and Erma Marquette.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 15, at the Lutheran Church of the Master, with the Rev. Charles Campbell officiating. Burial was in Fort Meigs Union Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, Perrysburg.
