Cynthia G. McClendon, 59, of Kansas City, Mo., died Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at K.U. Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Elmwood* Cemetery Pavilion with the Rev. Aaron Williams officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of Hartshorne. She was born Jan. 14, 1952, in Cambria, to George W. and Bettye L. (Smith) McClendon Sr. She grew up in Hartshorne, graduated from Hartshorne High School in 1969, then attended Kiamichi Technology Center in McAlester. After finishing school, she moved to Kansas City, Mo., where she lived the remainder of her life. She worked as an office manager for Dr. F. Williams and Dr. B. Caruthers for a combined 39 years. In her leisure time she enjoyed taking trips to visit family and friends. She was a member of the Paradise Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Tasha McClendon, of Independence, Mo.; her mother, Bettye L. McClendon, of Hartshorne; three sisters, Debora Neighbors, of Hartshorne, Mary Beth Neighbors, of Hartshorne, Christine "Critty" McClendon, of Denver, Colo. And, four brothers, George W. McClendon Jr., of Hartshorne, Jerome McClendon, of Hartshorne, Rodney McClendon, of Hartshorne, Vance McClendon, of Miami; one aunt, Catherine McClendon, of Hartshorne; one uncle, Lee T. Smith, of Denver, Colo. She was preceded in death by her father, and her grandparents, S. B. and Lucinda Smith and Dan and Mary McClendon.
