Jesse Houston Rhoden Jr.

Jesse H. Rhoden died Nov. 29, 2010 in Burnet. He was 91.
Jesse was born in Crockett on Sept. 26, 1919, to Jesse and Mattie Rhoden. He was raised in Winters, Odessa and Midland and attended the University of Texas. Jesse joined the U.S. Army in 1941 and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps in 1942. He served in the South Pacific with the 71 st Reconnaissance Group flying P-39 Aircobras in New Guinea and the Philippines.
Jesse married Winifred Gordon in 1945 and entered the feed and mohair business in Lampasas.
In 1957, the Rhoden family moved to Burnet where Jesse constructed the Rhoden Feed Mill, a fixture on east SH 29 for over 40 years. He retired in 1999.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Burnet.
Jesse is survived by his wife, WInifred, and one daughter, Elizabeth Nichols and husband Cranz of Burnet. He took particular pride in his grandson, Lt. Colonel Tom Hairgrove, wife Marina and great-grandchildren Gavin, Erika and Miranda of Manhattan, Kansas.
The family would like to express its thanks to the Country Oaks at Hamilton Creek and Lighthouse Hospice for the loving care extended to Mr. Rhoden.
Services were set for Thursday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. at Edgar Funeral Home in Burnet followed by interment at Post Mountain Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tom Hairgrove, Gavin Hairgrove, Laddie Macha, Mark Gordon, Walter Scott and Cranz Nichols. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
