CLARENCE WILSON
Services for Clarence Wilson, 79, were held Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Chariton. Clarence passed away January 7, 2011 at the Lucas County Health Center.
Clarence Leroy Wilson was born August 22, 1931 in Des Moines to Naomi Wilson. He attended school in Greenfield and graduated from Lucas High School in 1949. He worked at Edmond Stone & Sons and the Hy-Vee Distribution Center before serving in the Army during the Korean Conflict.
Returning to Chariton after the service he met Geneva Stone at Edmond Stone & Sons. They were married on June 19, 1955 at St. John Lutheran Church in Melcher. Clarence and Geneva were blessed with three children: LuAnn, Suellen and Mark.
After 23 years, Clarence retired from the Iowa Department of Transportation as an inspector in 1992. He enjoyed the Hawkeyes and was a big Charger fan.
Everyone will remember Clarence for his caring smile. He was kind, thoughtful and never complained. Clarence loved his family and never missed an opportunity to see his children and grandchildren in their activities. They always knew he loved them and was proud of them.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Stanley Goben.
He will be missed by his wife of 55 years, Geneva; his mother, Naomi Goben of Chariton; his children: LuAnn (Tom) Mosbach of Chariton, Suellen (Troy) LaZella of Bondurant, and Mark (Dee) Wilson of Ankeny; nine grandchildren: Abbie, Austin, Ben, Cole, Mickensee, Kelsey, Jake, Mike and Marcus.
He is also survived by brothers: Paul (Susan) Goben of Eckerty, IN, and Richard (Sheila) Goben of Wapello; a sister-in-law, Helen (Jim) Snodgrass of Mt. Pleasant; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
