Joe Harrell passed away peacefully on April 24, 2011 with his family at his side at his residence in Newton.
Joe was born on October 9, 1923 to S.M. and Lunie Harrell in Newton County. On January 17, 1942 he married the love of his life, Mineze Damrel. They shared 69 years together. They had two children, Peggy Harrell and Larry Joe Harrell.
Joe started working ast the age of 11 and at 16 he had a full time job. He was drafted into the U.S. Navy and completed a tour of duty in the South Pacific for a period of 2 years and 9 months. He completed his tour as Seaman First Class and recieved an honorable discharge. He then came home to take care of his family. Joe owned and operated many business in Newton County.
Joe lived his life to the fullest and enjoyed everyday. He had many friends and especially enjoyed his time with his two great grandsons, Colton and Chase.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, S. M. and Lunie Harrell, his brothers, Bo John Harrell, Henry "Runt" Harrell, his sisters, Donnie Hancock, Laura Mae Renfro, Margaret Brown, Sidney Lee Beatty and Josie Dean "Chicken" Odom and his son, Larry Joe Harrell.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mineze Harrell, his daughter, Peggy, grand daughter, Shellie Spradley and husband, David, two great grandsons, Colton and Chase Spradley and two brothers, Dan Harrrell and J. T. Harrell all of Newton and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at the First Baptist Church at 2pm with burial to follow at the Newton City Cemetery.
