Russian aerodynamicist and professor who founded the first institute of aerodynamics in Europe - Koutchino, near Moscow (1904). He belonged to the family of wealthy industrialists who have combined their interests to the interests of science and art. He was taught by professors of the Technical High School and the University of Moscow and among his teachers was Nikolai Zhukovsky (1847-1921), well known in the aviation world. He was was a brilliant student and won the gold medal.
