Gayle Ann (Goettman) Hamilton, 71, of Pulaski Township, formerly of Rochester, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011, unexpectedly at her home.
Born November 5, 1939, in Rochester, she was the daughter of the late Thomas R. Sr., and Ella I. (Anderson) Goettman. She was a former case worker with the Pennsylvania Welfare Department. Her most important job in life was fishing and her family. Gayle was a co-owner with her husband at Ham's Bar, in Rochester, for many years, where fun was had by all. She was a life member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rochester. She was a 1957 graduate of Rochester High School, where she was made queen her senior year and voted most athletic female. She attended Thiel College and Geneva College. She sang in her high school, college, and church choirs, and had traveled with the Thiel College Choir to Washington, DC, at the National Cathedral. She was a member of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls. Gayle was quick witted and "simply the best" and by many of her family and friends, she was known as the best fisherman, of which fishing was her passion. She was awarded several official Big Fish Citations in Pennsylvania and Florida. Over the years, she and her husband did much traveling over the United States by camping, motor home, and car. She was an avid astronomer and a member of the Beaver Valley Astronomer's Club, and a follower of the NASA Space Program. Gayle loved her Pittsburgh Steelers.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, J.P. Graham Hamilton, Sr. Also survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John T. and Lisa Hamilton, of Monaca and Joseph P.G. and June Hamilton, Jr., of Rochester; five grandchildren, Joseph T. Hamilton and his wife Amy Jo, of Weirton, WV, Shane Hamilton, of Rochester, John T. Hamilton, Jr., and Alex and Lauren Hamilton, of Monaca; two great grandchildren, Scout and Wyatt Hamilton, of Weirton, WV; one brother, Thomas R. Goettman, Jr., of Rochester Township; one sister, Suzanne J. Opalinsky, of Vanport; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Betty Hamilton, of New Brighton; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sally and Howard Hayes, of Palm Harbor, FL, and numerous nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Frank Opalinsky, in 2007.
Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the WILLIAM MURPHY FUNERAL HOME INC., 349 Adams St., Rochester.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Grace Evangelical Church, Rochester. Officiating will be her pastor Rev. Gregorgy S. Clagg
Interment will follow in Beaver Cemetery.
