Sylvia Elizabeth was the daughter of Duard Woodson Bryant and Pearl Elizabeth "Pearlie" Pulliam. She married Charles Lee Redman in Jeffersonville, Clark County, Indiana on August 6, 1924. On December 07, 1924, they became the parents of their only daughter, Ruby Lee Redman. Sadly, she passed away at the tender age of seven days due to being born severely premature. The following December they were blessed with the birth of their firstborn son, Kenneth Woodson Redman. Over the next twelve years they had three more sons, Charles Lee, Jr., in 1930, Donald Gene, in 1935, and their youngest, Phillip Franklin "Phil", in 1937.

After Charles, passed away in 1949, Sylvia married Cecil Hedges of Shelby County, but only resided with him a short while. She went to live with her son, Donald, and daughter-in-law, Patsy, after being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. She remained with them until just shortly before her death when she went to be cared for at Green's Nursing Home.

At the time of her death, Sylvia was survived by her four sons and their wives; two sisters, Grace Bryant Moore, and Zelma E. Bryant Wickliffe; and six grandchildren. Sylvia is buried in the Bagdad Cemetery where her parents and numerous other relations are buried.
