ORSON WASDEN, PIONEER, DIES AT SCIPIO HOME

Orson Wasden, the son of the late Thomas and Mary Coucum Wasden, died at his home here on February 22nd in his eighty third year.

He was born in Ashton, Yorkshire, England on September 27, 1850 and came to America with his family in 1855. They all joined the LDS Church in England. He came to Scipio in 1868 and has been here ever since.

In 1875 he married Annie Brown, who died four years ago. Two sons, Earl of Scipio and Elmer of Los Angeles and two daughters, Mrs. Rilla Memmott of Scipio and Mrs. E. Evans of Salt Lake City survive. Also thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

The deceased was a man of sterling quality, honest and upright and very religious. He was a great church worker and sang in the village choir for many years. He was a farmer and a stockraiser, owning quite a bunch of sheep at one time and later a herd of range cattle. He was happy and contented with the simple joys of life and had the happy faculty of making the best of everything. He was very patriotic and a great home lover and if there were more people of his calibre, we would need never fear any Communistic uprisings in our country.

Funeral services were held from the Ward meeting house at two o'clock on Friday afternoon and were largely attended. Bishop J. Wells Robins conducted the meeting. The choir sang, "Oh, My Father", "Who are These Arrayed in White" and "Farewell, All Earthly Honors". Mr. and Mrs. Burke Mathews sang, "Home". The speakers were Lars Jenson and Leonard A. Robins. Jesse B. Martin offered the invocation and J.P. Olsen pronounced the benediction. Interment was in the city cemetery. Out of town people attending the services were; Jonathan Leamaster of Juab; Elner Wasden of Los Angeles; Mrs. E. Evans and daughters Grace and Emma, of Salt Lake City; Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Nielson, Mrs. Dora Chase and Mrs. Iona Boswell of Nephi.
