Edna Jewell Alfred, 87, passed away on April 29, 2011 in Deer Park from complications of diabetes.

Edna was born on May 25, 1923 in Sabine County to Willis and Allie Moore, of Carthage. Edna moved to Jacinto City upon her marriage to Moody David Alfred on March 11, 1944 who predeceased her on August 25, 1995. She was the last surviving sister to Obie, June, Rabon, Lucille, and Ellen.

Survivors include her daughters, Shirley Alfred Jennings (Lee), of Crosby, and Carolyn Alfred Grohman (James), of Livingston; her stepsons who she loved as her own, Charles Alfred (Janice), of Crockett, and Randy Alfred (Glenda), of Montalba. Edna was blessed with nine grandchildren, Yvette Torres (Andy), of Goliad, Al Jamail (Rachel), of Crosby, Mark Ayles, of Flint, MI, Amy Clowers (Jacob), of Deer Park, Kerri Rolls, of Deer Park, James "Buster" Anderson, of AR, Matt Alfred (Terri), of TX, Randall Alfred (Heather), of Sarepta, LA, and Colette Alfred-Sikes (Jody), of Minden, LA; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Edna was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jacinto City. Edna proudly retired from Galena Park ISD and the Jacinto City Nursing Home. During the last five years Edna has resided at San Jacinto Manor in Deer Park where she was an active and much loved resident.

No birthday party was complete until Grandma arrived with her Buttermilk Fudge Cake. She was an avid sports fan, from the pro teams to little league. Edna delighted in her Astros and knew as many stats as the officials. Our Grandma will be remembered for living her life as a Good Samaritan and providing us with unconditional love.

A visitation was held on Monday, May 2, 2011 at San Jacinto Memorial Park and Funeral Home (I-10 East) at noon with funeral beginning at 1 p.m. Burial followed at San Jacinto Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Adam Torres, Joshua Torres, Al Jamail, Bobby Jennings, Jacob Clowers, and Cameron Alfred.
