MEADVILLE, March 15.—Curtis L. Webb, aged 69, an attorney in Crawford county since 1894 and one of the leading New Deal Democrats in the county, died unexpectedly here this afternoon from a heart attack. Mr. Webb, among other things, was referee in bankruptcy for Crawford county, and was at his office as usual this forenoon. About noon he went to a barber shop and was stricken while in a barber's chair. He was removed immediately to the City hospital, where he died an hour later, about 1:30.

There1 was probably no person in the county closer to the Democratic Administration at Harrisburg than Mr. Webb. He is said to have been the contact man between the New Deal leaders in Crawford county and Governor Earle and recently had brought about several appointments, including that of David McKinley as superintendent of highways in this county.

Mr. Webb was born on June 7, 1867, at Turnersville, O., just over the Crawford county line. He was a graduate of Ohio State university and the law school of Northwestern university. He practiced for one year in Chicago and then came to Meadville, where he was admitted to the bar in 1894.

Mr. Webb had always been a Democrat and took an active part in politics. He served one term as member of the Democratic State Committee several years ago. For the past year or so he had been connected with the WPA in Crawford county and was prominent in the New Deal wing of the party. He served as chairman, of the Birthday Ball for the President in Meadville a few weeks ago. He did some of the legal work of the Crawford County Trust Co.

A wife, who was Josephine Bates, survives, together with the following children: Arthur B. and Helen of Meadville, Mrs. Paul Campbell of Wilmington, Del.; Mary J. Webb and Mrs. Frank Hart of New York City. There are two sisters and one brother, Harry, of Erie. No funeral arrangements had been made tonight.
Titusville Herald, 16 Mar 1937, p. 10, Titusville, Pa.

The large attendance of friends present at services in memory of Curtis L. Webb, Esq., from the family home on Highland avenue, Meadville, at 3 p. m., Thursday, came from all parts of the county and the Crawford County Bar association was represented by 32 members. There were many floral tributes. Rev. W. F. Meyer, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiated and the interment was in Greendale cemetery.
