Mattie Carpenter Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Carpenter Passes Away Friday Afternoon After a Brief Illness
(Written by a friend of the family)
The Grim Reaper has again visited this community, this time to claim the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Carpenter who reside one mile southeast of this city.
Mattie Carpenter was born in Hawkins county, Tenn. April 9, 1895, and passed from this life Friday, November 18, 1910. All that human aid could do to bring her back to health gain was done but alas twas all in vain.
Mattie, up to the time of her fatal illness, was attending the high school at this place, she stood well in all her studies and was loved by all who knew her.
Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist Church by the Rev. P. F. Harman who delivered a very appropriate and touching sermon. The pupils of the school under the leadership of Prof. Shepard marched in a body from the church to the cemetery where they paid their last respects to their departed school mate.
She leaves to mourn her loss a father and mother, two brothers and two sisters. Words of kindness and sympathy for the bereaved ones were heard on every hand, but nothing but time alone can bind up the wounded and bleeding hearts of those who loved her so dearly.
She has gone but not forgotten
She has crossed the great divide,
To dwell in that great White City
With the one that was Crucified.
And up in that great White City
No sorrow will come to her there,
She's waiting and watching for loved ones,
To come over where all is so fair.
CARD OF THANKS
We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to those of our friends and neighbors who so kindly assisted us during the illness and death of our daughter.
Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Carpenter and family.
