Lt. Gricco was killed in action in the skies above Frankfurt, Germany while on a bombing mission in May 1944. 2nd Lt. Gricco was a Bombardier on a B-17 when his aircraft was hit by enemy fire - he 'bailed out directly over the skies of Frankfurt at approximately 1000 ft. in midst of terrific ground fire." per official report.
