Born in Hampton Co., SC and died in Hardeeville, SC, Micajah HUTSON served as a private with the 2nd Co. F, 11th SC Infantry in the Civil War along with his two brothers, William and Berry (Littleberry?) HUTSON. His death certificate shows that he died on August 6, 1927, but his tombstone has his date of death as 1929. He is buried alongside his third wife, Emma C. FREEMAN (mispelled as FREEMOND on her tombstone).

The 1880 US Census from Pocotaligo Township, SC shows Micajah and Emma being married in about 1876, but the 1900 US Census shows them being married for 21 years, which would put their marriage date around 1879. The 1900 Census shows Micajah's age at 58 years and Emma at 35 years... which means that Emma was married at about age 14 to Micajah who would have been 37 years old at the time. The 1910 Census also shows an "M2" notation for Micajah in the married column; which, according the the Census enumerator's official instructions, means that Micajah was married more than once. (According to M.F. HUTSON, Micajah HUTSON was married a total of 3 times.) Also living with Micajah in 1880 were his father, Joseph (listed as infirmed) and Micajah's brother, Berry, who is listed as a laborer with one arm (likely lost in the Civil War, where Berry was wounded.) Micajah was grazed in the head by a sniper in the war, but survived well into old age.

Micajah and Emma had 13 children.
