Mr. Godfrey was son of the late Adolphus D. and Irene Cropp Godfrey. On his father's side he was the seventh generation to live in Fauquier County. A veteran of the U.S. Navy in World War II, he was an original crew member on the USS Frank E. Evans, DD754. His ship was engaged in the battle for Okinawa in 1945. Mr. Godfrey retired from the U. S. Government in 1975 and from Northern Virginia Community College in 1987.
Gardening, hunting and fishing were great passions of his in earlier years. He produced large vegetable gardens for over 25 years. His love of bird hunting also allowed him to raise quality bird dogs for years.
