Parents were John Eaton (1716-1789) and Elizabeth (maiden name unknown*). Isaac's father, John Eaton, came to Rowan County North Carolina from Philadelphia, sometime before 1750. The family were founding members of Pennepak Baptist Church in Lower Dublin Township, Pennsylvania (modern day northeast Philadelphia). They'd come from Wales in the 1680's, in order to escape persecution for their dissident Baptist beliefs. At that time, the Church of England particularly disliked sects which did not believe in baptizing their newborns into the Church, as that was one of the methods used to establish taxation.

Isaac moved from Rowan County, NC, with several family members, after the death of his father, John, in 1789, and the death of his wife, Phoebe, in 1798. They were in Buncombe/Haywood County, NC from about 1800 to 1815. After a recent trip to Waynesville, NC, the county seat of Haywood County, in which I consulted Eaton deeds with a local historian, I believe Eaton's probably lived somewhere in the vicinity of present day Canton, NC.

Issac probably moved from Haywood County NC into Rutherford County TN around 1812. He died soon after and may be buried in Rutherford Co TN, though the original poster of this memorial shows him to be buried back in Rowan Co NC. I'm not at all sure a family would have transported a deceased family member from the area of Murfreesboro TN to Mocksville NC for burial in 1813. Roads were not good. I will update after research.

*NOTE:
Many researchers still insert Elizabeth LOVERING into this Rowan Co NC family as John Eaton's wife, but this is not correct. Elizabeth Lovering married a John Eaton, in the same time frame, in Dedham Massachusetts. However, Elizabeth Lovering Eaton and her John Eaton are well documented to have lived and died in Massachusetts; never moving south. The Eaton Family Association has done Y-DNA testing which clearly identifies the Dedham Eaton's to be a separate branch from the Philadelphia Welsh Eaton's.
