Pfc. Fredrick Smith Will Be Reburied In Holston View

Gate City, Va. - (Spl.) The body of Pfc. Frederick R. Smith was returned to his home here Friday, after arriving in Kingsport. Veterans of Foreign Wars of Kingsport and Gate City Legion Post 65 furnished the color guard and pallbearers.

Pfc. Smith was a native of Scott County and was the son of Lawrence Y. and Callie Herron Smith. He was educated at Shoemaker High School, and before entering military service was employed in the engraving department of the Kingsport Press.

He was inducted July 17, 1943, and took training at Camp Lee, Va., Camp Rucker, Ala. and Camp Forest, Tenn. He was overseas in April, 1944, and lost his life on Utah Beach during the course of the initial assault of the beach landidng on D-Day.

Both parents and a sister, Mrs. Paul Davis, all of Gate City, survive.

Funeral services will be held at the First Methodist Church here, Sunday. Chaplain J. C. Hawkins, former pastor, will have charge. American Legion Post 65 of Gate City will furnish pallbearers, color guard, and will have charge of the graveside service. Burial will be in the veterans' section of Holston View Cemetery.
