He attended Cherryville Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1983 retiring as a Sergeant First Class. After retiring from the Army he was an AMVETS Service Officer. He was a member of 32nd Masons, Shriner, Life Member of Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, AMVETS, and American Legion Post #141 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. He was honored and proud to have served his country and honored and proud to have served the Veterans after retiring from the Army.

Gary D. Trowbridge, 68, of Marion, Illinois and formerly of Keenes, Illinois passed away at his home in Marion, Illinois at 12:05 A.M. on May 8, 2009.

He was born on March 19, 1941 in Keenes, Illinois the son of the late Walter Ernest and Edna (Dunlap) Trowbridge. He married Peggy Loyd on April 9, 1977 in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and she survives.

Surviving family members include his Wife: Peggy Trowbridge of Marion, Illinois; 3 Sons: Gary Mark Trowbridge of Henderson, Kentucky, Richard Trowbridge of Wayne City, Illinois and Patrick A. Trowbridge of Marion, Illinois; 4 Daughters: Stacy Trowbridge of Bloomington, Illinois, Angela Trowbridge of Wayne City, Illinois, Kimberly L. Trowbridge Gross and husband Shawn of Wayne City, Illinois and Kimberly A. Trowbridge Bodhaine and husband Duane of Grand Rapids, Michigan; 11 Grandchildren; 3 Great Grandchildren; 3 Brothers: Larry Trowbridge of Annapolis, Missouri, Jim Trowbridge of Fairmont City, Illinois and Bob Darnell of Florida; 3 Sisters: Katheryn Chandler of Kentucky, Imogene Smith of Wayne City, Illinois and Nina Davis of LaSalle, Illinois; Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

His parents, 3 brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

ARRANGEMENTS:
GRAVESIDE SERVICES: were held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Mount Zion Cemetery in Jefferson County, Illinois. INTERMENT: Mount Zion Cemetery in Jefferson County, Illinois. Full Military Rites were conducted by the Chaplain of the American Legion Post #141 at the cemetery. VISITATION: was held from 5 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, May 11, 2009 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the AMVETS or American Legion Post #141 and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, Illinois 62864.
