Ennis M. Hooper [possibly Ennis Marion Hooper], born in Jefferson County, Tennessee in 1830, came to Texas at age sixteen and lived in Burleson County (now Lee) until his death in 1906 at age seventy-six. He served from beginning to end of the Civil War, in Co. H, 17th Texas Regiment, and was a member in good standing in Camp Tom Douglass, U.C.V., at the time of his death. He married Annie Ellen Bridgett in 1866, and she, with four sons and one daughter, survived him. He was buried in the Guthrie Cemetery north of Lexington. It was stated in his obituary that "where towns and farms are now, was then a wild frontier where the coyotes howled and red men roamed. He professed faith in Christ at an early age in Tennessee and he lived a Christian life up to his death." His sons are: F.L. (Lee, who married Annie Clemons; J.L. (John), who married Mandy Mathis; E.O. (Ennis), who married Lillie Tyler (1st), then Lou Msuton (2nd); J.T. (Jim) who married Pauline (Polly) Clemons. His only daughter was Ada, who married a Mr. Hodge. Two sons, Brice and Bill, preceded their father in death. Source: Mrs. R.I. Vance and Mrs. Mary Brown.
